Does Body Mist Expire? When to Throw It Out
Body mist does not 'go bad' the way food does — but it does change over time. Here is what affects shelf life and when to retire a bottle.
Typical Shelf Life
Unopened: 3–5 years. Opened: 1–3 years depending on storage. Body mists with high citrus content degrade faster (citrus oils oxidise within 12–18 months).
Look for the PAO symbol (period-after-opening) — usually 12M or 24M — printed near the ingredients list.
Signs a Mist Has Gone Off
Colour shift (clear becomes yellow, light yellow becomes amber). Smell shift (sharper, sour, or 'off' on first spray). Lower projection or strange skin reactions.
If any of these — discontinue use.
How to Maximise Shelf Life
Store away from sunlight, heat, and humidity. The bathroom shelf is the worst place — bedroom drawer or closet is best.
Keep the cap on — air contact accelerates oxidation.
The Fridge Question
Fragrance does not need to be refrigerated, but cool storage extends life. A few bottles in the fridge is fine; not necessary.
