What the two alcohol numbers mean
The declaration reads: Alcohol (85% V/v) Content: 62.5% V/v. Two percentages, and they are not the same measurement.
The first number describes the alcohol solution itself — the denatured alcohol used is 85% alcohol by volume. The second describes how much of that solution is in the finished bottle — 62.5% by volume.
So roughly two-thirds of what you spray is the alcoholic carrier, and that carrier is itself 85% alcohol. It is worth understanding because it explains the product's behaviour: the cold hit on your skin, the sharp first second before the fragrance settles, and why the mist dries within moments rather than sitting wet.
It also explains why aloe and propylene glycol are in the formula at all. Without humectants, a product that is two-thirds alcohol solution would be noticeably drying on skin that already gets showered twice a day.
Why sunscreen filters are in your fragrance
This is the line that surprises people, and the answer is genuinely interesting: they are not there for your skin.
Fragrance materials are chemically fragile. Citrus notes in particular oxidise readily, and UV exposure accelerates the process — which is why an old bottle left on a sunny shelf smells sharp and slightly metallic compared to a fresh one, and why pale juices go amber over time.
Avobenzone absorbs UVA and octyl methoxycinnamate absorbs UVB. Together they act as a light shield inside the formula, protecting the fragrance oils from degrading while the bottle sits on your dresser or travels in a handbag.
They are present at fragrance-stabilising levels, not sun-protection levels. A body mist is not sunscreen and should never be used as one.
What is not in it
Sometimes the absences are the useful part.
There are no surfactants, because nothing here needs to foam or cleanse. There are no silicones, because there is no film to build. There are no thickeners or emulsifiers, because there is no oil-and-water emulsion to hold together — this is a solution, not a cream.
