Body lotion is water-based and lighter — absorbs quickly, good for daily use in humid conditions, and suits normal to slightly dry skin. Body butter is oil-rich and thicker — better for very dry, rough skin (especially elbows, knees, and heels) and for colder, drier climates. In Indian summer: lotion.
