The calcium and magnesium ions in hard water react chemically with the fatty acids in soap and body wash, forming calcium stearate: a waxy, insoluble residue that coats your skin rather than rinsing away cleanly. How Hard Water Damages Skin

Glycerin-rich: The more glycerin in the formula, the more moisture it deposits even through the rinse process — compensating for the drying effect of hard water.
The Routine Adjustment
If you can't filter your water, apply body lotion immediately after towelling off — while skin is still slightly warm and damp. The residual warmth opens absorption and the lotion creates an occlusive layer before the hard water residue can fully settle.
