Body mist vs perfume
A body mist carries roughly 1–3% fragrance oil; an eau de parfum carries 15–20%. That single fact drives every practical difference between them.
Because the mist is dilute, you spray it generously — six sprays across the torso, arms and back of the neck. Because the parfum is concentrated, you apply it to two or three warm points and stop. Spray a parfum like a mist and you will have a headache and an unhappy office.
The mist is the daily format. It is cheaper per wear, softer on skin, and it does not fight with the air on a 38°C afternoon. The parfum is for the evenings where you want to be remembered by someone standing a metre away.

Body mist vs deodorant
These are not competitors, and using one as the other is the most common mistake in the category.

With no alcohol to flash off, nothing lifts the fragrance away from the skin in the first minute. The oil sits, warms, and releases slowly. That gives you the longest hold per application of any format, often 6–10 hours, and a scent that stays extraordinarily close to the body.
The trade-off is projection. An attar is an intimate format — it rewards proximity. If you want a trail behind you down a corridor, an oil will disappoint you. If you want the person who hugs you to notice, nothing does it better.

Body mist vs body spray
The labels are used interchangeably, but the products usually are not.
A body spray is typically built on a higher-alcohol base and tuned for immediate impact — a sharp, loud opening that reads powerfully for ten or fifteen minutes and then collapses. It is designed to be reapplied, and it is often drying on skin.
A body mist is tuned for the opposite: a softer opening, humectants in the formula so it does not strip, and a development that is meant to be lived with for hours rather than noticed for minutes.
You can tell them apart on skin in about twenty minutes. If it was dramatic and is now gone, it was a spray.
